Governor Kemp, and many community leaders, gathered last week to announce the ground breaking news of the 722 acre development project in St. Marys. The Cumberland Inlet will include a marina village, a boutique hotel and serve as a hub for eco-tourism. Jim Jacoby, a master-planned developer, who has developed projects such as Atlantic Station in Atlanta, will be leading the development project along with Camden County Joint Development Authority. Many years in the making, this highly anticipated project will be transformative for the city of St. Marys.The Cumberland Inlet is one bend in the river from Cumberland Harbour, and will link the two communities via the North River.

Empty nesters, Jonathan and Carmita Criss, have always had a yearning for life by the water. However, work has always dictated where these two Northern Virginia residents had to live. But things were about to change for them. When COVID-19 hit hard in spring of 2020, Jonathan’s job went completely virtual, releasing them from their ties to Virginia. The Criss’ decided to take a road trip after attending an Ideal Living Expo in Tysons Corner, Virginia. They had never heard of St. Marys, Georgia but were intrigued with what they had learned at the show.  “Georgia was never on our radar when we thought of retirement.” Quickly, St. Marys became the spotlight for them to lay down retirement roots. “We enjoyed every minute we were there! The town, the people and most of all the coastal communities!” The Criss’ didn’t waste time securing a home in beautiful Osprey Cove. Osprey Cove is an active community that offers golf, tennis, a boat ramp, fitness center, club house and swimming pool with a Tiki Hut. “Even though we’re both still working we feel as though we are on perpetual vacation. We are only minutes from Florida, so driving to Jacksonville International Airport or Amelia Island is very convenient and generally has no traffic!” The Criss’ couldn’t be happier with their decision. “There’s nothing better,” says Jonathan. “I get to golf and wear shorts and flip flops year-round.”
