HOME PLAN OF THE WEEK
THE HOLIDAY HOUSE
When looking for a home plan that would fit on the above homesite,  I came across Allison Ramsey’s Holiday House.  What luck that this is the exact size I was looking for and it has an apropos name for this time of year.  It’s a beautiful cottage and has a surprise bonus in the back of the home!

Brilliant light streams through the many windows in the living room with a stunning wood burning brick fireplace for those chilly nights we’re now encountering.

Large, rustic but modern kitchen with a center island and an adjoining dining room.
Laundry room with fun forest green cabinetry and a farmhouse sink.   Master bath with a sunken tub and dark rustic vanity.
This two story home has the master on the main level with a reading room and library adjacent to the master as well as an oversized walk-in closet.
The second level has an additional two bedrooms, one bath and a sitting area which is great for family and friends visiting.
The library offers room for cozy seating and another great fireplace.
Our favorite part about this home plan is all of the open space which flows from the interior space.  As you can see from the main level floor plan, the home wraps itself around the terrace, pool, fire pit and the outdoor kitchen.  We also love how you can be at the kitchen island prepping for a meal and either watching the kiddos in the pool or speaking with your friends who are outside having fun!

The “Great Tree” as previously mentioned is amazing to see in person!

HOLIDAY CHEER IN ST. MARYS
St. Marys has canceled their annual White Light which featured a parade, dancing, singing, lighting of our downtown Christmas tree and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Although we know this cancellation was made to keep everyone safe, that hasn’t stopped our town from still looking festive and beautiful with lights and decorations.
One of our historic bread and breakfasts:  The Goodbread House, also decorated for the holidays.

Another one of our historic bed and breakfasts is The Spencer House Inn all decorated for the holidays and awaiting your visit!

Howard Gilman Park is located in downtown St. Marys and is dedicated to the owner of the Gilman Paper Company that was one of the largest employers in St. Marys for many years.  The park always looks radiant, but even more so now with lights throughout the park and the beautiful fountain!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion -diced
  • 1 pound 90% lean ground beef
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper* -optional
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 (15 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 (16 oz.) can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

Instructions

  • Add the olive oil to a large soup pot and place it over medium-high heat for two minutes. Add the onion. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-7 minutes, until the beef is browned, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and optional cayenne. Stir until well combined.
  • Add the broth, diced tomatoes (with their juice), drained beans, and tomato sauce. Stir well.
  • Bring the liquid to a low boil. Then, reduce the heat (low to medium-low) to gently simmer the chili, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the pot from the heat. Let the chili rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

I typically skip the cayenne pepper because I have a young kiddo.  Then, I put out some hot sauce for those adults that want to add some spiciness to their chili.
