Escape to Cumberland Island

History

Cumberland Island is simply a magical experience. Cumberland Island is our nearest island neighbor, and is Georgia’s largest and southernmost barrier island. Maritime live-oak forests and seventeen miles of white sand beaches stretch out to greet you. The island is filled with history, including the stories of the strong individuals who fought to preserve the island for generations to enjoy.

Beaches

Enjoy biking, shelling or swimming in the ocean at Cumberland Island, voted America’s Most Beautiful Wilderness Beach by the Travel Channel. Take the ferry, or arrive by private boat. Cumberland Island simply a magical experience.

Camping

Stories of the Timucuan Indians, the British, and the Carnegie family who donated much of the Island to the National Park Service, are all a part of the history of Cumberland Island. Take a tour of Plum Orchard, a mansion built by the Carnegies, or camp out under the stars at Sea Camp.
